CHAPTER 5

Anaya went home quite depressed that night. After that little conversation with Ayaan at the mall, she had not expected anything from this wedding. But hearing him again, she felt broken and helpless. The least he could do was respect this sacred bond. She was sitting right now on her balcony, staring at the moon when she remembered her mother's words.

“Whenever you miss me beta, just look at the moon. I will always be there for you.”

Heer’s eyes filled with tears as she said, “Mama, I miss you very much. I cannot do this. I don’t want to marry, but Dad needs this. Ayaan does not like me at all, Mama. Please help me and lead the way. I am very confused.”

She wiped her tears, feeling her wet cheeks. She looked at the sky one last time before going inside. She opened her phone to see many messages, some from her faraway friends congratulating her and some relatives too. But there was a message from an unknown number too. She thought it was Anaya’s new number, as she said she would be changing her SIM. But as she opened the message, she was shocked.

Unknown: “How dare you marry someone else! I left for some time, and you thought of marrying someone else, baby? Then you are completely wrong. You are only mine, and I will not let this marriage happen at any cost.”

Heer’s POV:

My phone dropped from her hand. Who was this? No, no, no, this can't be h-him. He left a long time ago. Even the police said that he was gone for good. But w-w-why is h-he back? No-n-no, if anyone got to know about this, what would they think? I was again starting to have my panic attack as I ran to find my tablets. I grabbed one and gulped it down as I could feel my heart rate going back to normal. It can't happen again, I thought, as the flashback started.

Flashback:

It started when I was in my last year of college. Once after college, I was waiting for my taxi to arrive, as Anaya had to leave early today. Ughh, it's been 10 minutes, why is the road so empty today? Finally, I reached home after a while and directly went to my room to freshen up. As I came outside drying my hair with my towel, my eyes went to an envelope on my dressing table. Huh, who kept this here? I opened it and a scream left my throat. It was a photo of me from the past year, when I went to the dog park, Anaya’s birthday, me visiting the orphanage, and it even had the photo of me waiting for the taxi today. It consisted of a letter too.

“Hey baby, didn’t want to freak you out, but you looked really cute in this dress today. Can't wait to have you in my arms.

Bye darling, love you.”

Hearing me scream, Dad and Maa came running to my room. Dad got really furious seeing the pictures and letter and called the police immediately. I got the letters every week, but the police could not catch him as it stopped after 6 months. But now, it was back after 1.5 years.

Flashback ends.

I closed my eyes, breathing heavily. Only Anaya and my family knew about this stalker, and since that has happened, they have been really protective of me. All of them were really worried about it, and I don’t want this again. Why is he back? Was it because of the wedding announcement? As I was thinking about it, I got a call. It was Anaya.

“Knew it, you are still up. What's wrong?” ~ Anaya

“How did you know I was up?” ~ Heer

“You had an online status, so who are you texting, Jiju huh?” ~ Anaya

“Nah,I- just going to sleep.” ~ Heer

Anaya sighs

“You know if something's wrong, you can come to me, right? I won't judge.” ~ Anaya

“Yes.” ~ Heer

“Love you, good night, and don’t be nervous for tomorrow.” ~ Anaya

“Good night.” ~ Heer

Heer sighed, laying down in her bed. The stalker drama made her forget what tomorrow held for her. Her wedding. It was tomorrow. A day every girl dreams and fantasizes about their whole life, and here she wasn’t even excited, just nervous for whatever the future held for her.
